Newest Version of the Birth of Venus-this one’s more than a page!

The Birth of Venus In the year 1485 Allesandro Botticelli began (The Birth of Venus). In the center of the painting there is a nude woman with long orange hair wrapped around her body, standing in an open shell in the ocean. There are two figures to her left, and one figure to her right. It was created using tempera on canvas. The dimensions of the painting are 67 7/8 x 109 5/8 inches. The painting is horizontal. It was created from 1485 to 1486, and finished in 1486, in
Florence, Italy. The nude woman, Venus, is standing in an open sea shell. The left side of her body is very lightly shaded. Her left knee is bent inward toward her right leg, and the toes on her left foot are facing outwards to the left. Her left arm is hanging down and bent at the elbow. The forearm is bent upwards at an acute angle so that her hand covers the left breast. Her head is slightly tilted so that the top of her head gently faces the left, and the bottom of her chin faces the right. Her hair is orange in the light parts, and brown orange in the shadows. Her right hand holds the flowing ends of her long tresses and covers her genital area. The hair comes down behind her right arm before coming into the right hand’s clutches. The hair is in a loose ponytail. The tie for her hair has three parts, the top part starts at the bottom of her chin, then there is a small amount of hair, and then the two more ties are bunched together. There appears to be a slight breeze, because the parts of hair that are not in the ponytail are gently blowing to the right. The hair, not in the ponytail, on the left side of her head gently curls, and then swoops across her neck, to her shoulder. Venus is looking in the direction of the viewer, but slightly downwards. Her face is relaxed looking, because of the way her mouth is closed, but not tightly. Her eyes are not intensely looking in any direction, as if she was staring off into space. Her eyebrows help tell of her relaxation by the way that they are slightly curved, showing that she is content, but not overjoyed. The left side of her face is in a shadow which stops in between her right and left eyes. Her eyes appear to be green or hazel. Her nose is curved, with no sharp edges, and it has a long arc with a slightly wide-set nose. Her right nostril shows more than her left one. Her philtrum is barely visible; mainly the middle valley of it is showing. Her mouth has a gentle smile to it, because the edges of the lips are slightly curved upward. Her lips are deep red, almost purple looking. She appears to be wearing makeup, because of the color of her lips, and her eyes. It appears that she is wearing purple eye shadow on her upper eyelid, because the color would be unnatural without makeup. Her skin color is a pale, peachy color. Venus has highlights on her right arm and the right side of her right breast. Her left thigh has a highlight, and also her right leg has a highlight running down the whole right side.
The figure to the right of Venus is a woman. She is facing towards Venus, so that you cannot see her whole body from the front. You can see both her arms, and both her legs. Her right foot is in front of her, and her left foot is behind her. Her right foot is pointed; however her left foot is flat. Her left arm is reaching upwards and outwards, and her right arm is bent at the elbow so that her arm makes a 90 degree angle. Her hands are holding a large, dark pink piece of cloth that appears to be a blanket or a cape. The cloth has a floral print with flowers and bunches of grass. The cloth is billowing in the wind and behind her body. It appears that the woman is trying to put the cape on Venus. The woman is wearing a long, flowing dress. The dress is a very light, pink, cream color with what appears to be floral print. The little floral prints are dark blue and green. They seem to be long skinny flowers; however each flower is only about the size of the woman’s hands. There are vines wrapped around her neck, and beneath her breasts. Her dress is billowing in the same breeze as Venus’ hair. The cloth on her dress is flowing behind her. Her dress especially bunches up in between her legs, and behind her left leg. Her face is not very distinct, but the profile of her face is normal-a nose, brow, and lips. Her skin is also pale, but does not glow like that of Venus.

Other figures in the painting…

To the right of the nude woman in The Birth of Venus, is another figure who is a woman. The woman has orange hair, as well. However, her hair is tied up in a way that it is bunched up on the side of her head. The viewer can only see the right side of her body, because she is turned so that she is facing the nude woman in the center of the painting. She is wearing what appears to be a long dress with floral print. The floral shapes are dark green, and the background of the dress is a whitish cream color.

The Birth of Venus

In the year 1485 Allesandro Botticelli began to create a painting. The painting appears to be of a nude woman with long orange hair wrapped around her body, standing in an open shell in the ocean. There are two figures to her left, and one figure to her right. The painting is called The Birth of Venus. It was painted using tempera on canvas. The dimensions of the painting are 67 7/8 x 109 5/8 inches. The painting is horizontal. It was created from 1485 to 1486 in
Florence, Italy. In the center of the painting is the focal point, a nude woman.

The nude woman is standing in, what appears to be, an open shell. The left side of her body is lightly in shadow. Her left knee is bent inward toward her right leg, and her toes on her left foot are facing outwards to the left. Her left arm is hanging down and bent at the elbow. Her forearm is bent upwards at an acute angle so that her hand covers her naked, left breast. Her head is slightly tilted so that the top of her head gently faces the left, and the bottom of her chin faces the right. Her hair is orange in the light parts, and brown orange in the shadows. Her hair is clutched in her right hand, bunched up over her genital area. The hair comes down to the hand behind her right arm, which is very gently bent at the elbow, so that her hand faces inwards while her elbow faces outwards to the right. Her hair is in a loose ponytail. The tie for her hair has three parts, the top part starts at the bottom of her chin, then there is a small amount of hair, and then the two more ties bunched together. There appears to be a slight breeze, because the parts of hair that are not in the ponytail are gently blowing to the right. The breeze would be coming from the left. The hair, not in the ponytail, on the left side of her head gently curls, and then swoops across her neck, to her shoulder. Beneath the hair is her right breast which is completely nude with nothing covering it. The nude woman’s face is looking in the direction of the viewer.  Her face is relaxed looking, because of the way her mouth is closed, but not tightly. Her eyes are slightly glazed over, and her eyebrows help tell of her relaxation. The left side of her face is in a shadow which stops in between her right and left eyes. Her eyebrows are lightly arched upwards. Her eyes appear to be green or hazel. She appears to be staring off at something in front of her.  Her nose is curvy and small. Her right nostril shows more than her left one. Her mouth has a gentle smile to it, however her face looks plain.
